Sunstar Group Global Sales Trends (consolidated)
All inter-company sales have been eliminated.
Business Performance FY 2023
The sales ratio of the industrial to consumer business remains at 2:3, with consistent growth of both businesses worldwide. FY 2023 showed a second consecutive year of growth for the consumer business sales in Europe and North America, while still facing declining sales in China and Japan. The industrial business also witnessed enhanced sales in automotive decarbonization efforts and the expansion of the metal parts business into new regions.
Business Performance FY 2022
The sales ratio between industrial and consumer business shifted from 1:2 to 2:3 due to an accelerated growth of automotive adhesives combined with declined sales of the consumer business in Japan and China.
Business Performance FY 2021
Sales recovered in both the Consumer and Industrial business sectors. However, the effects of COVID-19 and supply chain disruptions still posed challenges to business worldwide.
Consumer Business: Oral care goods, cosmetic, health foods, etc. *Industrial Business: Metal parts for motorcycles, automobiles, and adhesives/sealants for automobiles, buildings, electronic parts, etc.
Business Performance Fiscal Year 2020
In 2020, the Sunstar Group, as many other companies, faced difficult business operations due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. All regions showed a decrease in sales which led to a reduction in consolidated net sales of the Group of 14.1% compared to prior period, i.e. from 1,307 million to 1,123 million Swiss francs (CHF), as well as a decrease in the consolidated operating income to 43 million Swiss francs (CHF). Even under these circumstances, China recorded double-digit sales growth in the consumer business due to a significant increase in e-commerce. In Japan, hygiene-related products and sterilization and deodorization systems, which are essential for new normal lifestyles, expanded sales.
Both the consumer business and the industrial business saw a decline in sales, also due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to a drop in consumption as a result of lockdowns in various regions and production cutbacks by business partners.
Business Performance Fiscal Year 2019
Sunstar Group saw solid growth in Asia, the Americas and Europe. This steady growth was driven by proactive development of oral care products in the Consumer Business and adhesives in the Industrial Business.
The Consumer Business accounted for approximately two-thirds of the total Group net sales, and showed positive growth. In the Industrial Business, worldwide used automotive adhesives were the driver behind steady growth. A new development and manufacturing site for automotive adhesives in Indonesia, USA (Ohio) and Germany will lead to even further business expansion.
