Announcing the 5th World Dental Hygienist Award winners!

We are thrilled to announce the 5th World Dental Hygienist Award winners! After an exciting and challenging decision process, an independent committee has selected two winning papers in the ‘Project Category’ and ‘Research Category’ respectively.

We are very pleased with the quality of the papers submitted, especially regarding the ‘Research Category’ that had another excellent finalist paper. On the other hand, this year there is not a winner in the for the Student Research Category since the score obtained by the presented papers was not high enough.

Tan Minh Nguyen

For the Project Category, the winner is Mr Tan Minh Nguyen, from Australia, for the project entitled: “Integrating Evidence-Based Dentistry Within a Public Dental Program for Children".

About the study: This study demonstrates that supporting dental practitioners from an oral health prevention approach based on Minimal Intervention Dentistry within a public dental service in Australia could influence the type of dental services provided over a year to children aged between 0 and 12 years old.

Prize: the winner of this project wins $3,000.

Danielle Clark

For the Research Category, the winner is Danielle Clark, from Canada, for the project entitled: “The Role of Loricrin in Severe (Formerly Aggressive) Periodontal Disease”.

About the study: This paper suggests that low-levels of loricrin protein could be considered as a risk factor for AgP/Grade C Periodontitis (Aggressive Periodontitis).
