A New Chapter of Transformation
2024 was a pivotal year for Sunstar. With the launch of the Sunstar Together - Creating Our Future initiative, the company took important steps to unlock our full potential as a truly global company. The introduction of a new Global Operating Model and the creation of the Executive Committee have enhanced cross-functional collaboration and aligned our organization around three strategic pillars: Driving Growth, Creating Efficiency, and Building Capability.
Consumer Business Highlights
Sunstar’s Consumer Business expanded its global reach through digital transformation, professional engagement, and innovative brand-building. Achievements from the past year include:
- Scaling GUM® as a global power brand: Achieved growth in Europe and the United States by focusing on digital marketing and strengthening communication with consumers.
- Expansion of the health food business in Japan: Launched the innovative fasting product ANDFASTING, inspired by the Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD®) and the latest nutritional science from the United States.
- Continued progress in sustainability: Expanded the use of biomass plastics; in Europe, 85% of sales now come from products with packaging containing more than 70% recycled materials.
Industrial Business Progress
The Industrial Business focused on portfolio development and environmentally responsible innovation. Key highlights include:
- Strengthening the Product Lineup: Integrated Toyo Polymer Co., Ltd., enhancing the lineup of adhesive products.
- Reinforcing Core Businesses and Driving Market Expansion: Transitioned to a more efficient and profitable business structure by divesting our motorcycle aftermarket business.
- Advancing Sustainability: In Chemicals, initiated joint development with automobile manufacturers of products contributing to carbon neutrality; in the Materials Core, developed brake discs that reduce CO₂ emissions during manufacturing by 50%.
Investing in People and Culture
In 2024, Sunstar continued to build a positive and inclusive workplace through global employee recognition, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and professional development programs. At the same time, we reinforced our governance and risk management to support long-term sustainable growth.
